Faroese Environment Agency
The Faroese Environment Agency is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Environment. Its work areas include Environment Protection, Land (Faroese Cadastre), Maps and Geodata, Research, Recreational areas, the Land Registration Act and the National Register.
We are an active force in the community and employs various specialists within its areas of responsibility. A significant part of the Agency’s activities is to disseminate information to the public, authorities and other interested parties. This is accomplished, in part, by a dynamic website.
We are in charge of the Faroe Islands’ implemented agreements that fall within the Agency’s domain. In addition, the Agency is participating in various Nordic and international cooperations.

Name-changes and foreign names
The Environment Agency on the Faroe Islands holds the executive powers regarding name-changes and foreign names for children of foreign citizens living in the Faroe Islands, see www.us.fo/english.
When parents in the Faroe Islands want a foreign name for their children, one of the legal requirements is that the parents provide confirmation from a governmental body in their home country or a relevant embassy/consulate, of whether the particular name is a common name in their home country and matches the name tradition in that particular country.
The confirmation must be dated, signed and stamped by the issuing office.
